DJ Flow

Dance DJ

Have you ever heard of flow state? The psychological phenomenon when you are so immersed in a moment that time just freezes. Well, I absolutely love that feeling! And the place I experience this the most is the dance floor. My mission as a DJ is to take my audience on a journey through emotions, and hopefully get them to experience flow state as well.

My background

I’m a very musical person, coming from a family where everyone plays an instrument. I myself studied to play the piano for 10 years, along with music theory and history, until dancing took priority in my life. Nowadays, I enjoy playing my djembo drum.As a dancer, I regard my body as another instrument in the song. The music drives me, I love to hit the interesting details and rhythms in the music. I’m almost unable to have a good dance to a song I don't like, while hearing a nice new tune makes my day.I’ve been collecting and categorizing my music for decades. Ever since childhood, I've had a strong desire to share my favourite songs with others.I started DJ-ing in 2023. I taught myself through online content, observing my role models, learning on the job, and a little help from my DJ friends.

Brazilian Zouk

Similarly to west coast swing, my favourite part of the parties is the early morning hours. I like meditative songs with interesting rhythms and layers, conveying different emotions. I lean towards electronic and world music, but aim to play a bit of every genre. My music has been described as trippy.I draw some influence from west coast, and also ecstatic dance. I pay a lot of attention to creating seamless waves of energy and emotions, to take the dancers on a journey.I'm playing regularly at local parties in London: I'm the resident DJ at Sway Bar, and play monthly at Floripa.I've also DJ-ed at two international festival so far: Zouk Lounge, and the new WCS and Zouk cross-over event, FlowState, where I got to play in some of the most prestigious spots: the opening party and the pre-finals slot for WCS, the only cross-over party straight after the pro show, and the closing set in the Zouk room. This summer, I'm playing at the Follower's TED retreat with Brenda and the Solstice TED retreat in Poland. Please check out my favourite sets as reference.Sunday night @ Zouk Lounge FestivalChill room @ ZoukingDebut set @ Bar SalsaZouk & WCS cross-over party @ FlowState Festival

West Coast Swing

As wcs a dancer, my favourite part of the events is the last few hours of the parties late in the night. Often times the music played at this hour is calming, meditative, experimental and inspiring. As a DJ, I'd like to recreate this feeling to some extent regardless of the time of day I play. In my early evening sets, of course, I play mostly energetic, well-known music with easy rhythms, but I still try to find a few songs with a meditative or experimental vibe which work well in the given situation. In my sets, I aim to achieve a balance where everyone finds familiar stuff as well as new inspirations. On top of the well-known floor-fillers, I play some current hits, forgotten wcs classics, retro songs everyone knows but has never danced to, interesting covers of well-known songs, and if, but only if the situation allows: a few songs discovered through my other dance styles, and maybe one or two of my own discoveries. On top of playing regularly at local parties in London, I've played at 2 international festivals so far: Midland Swing Open, and the new Zouk and WCS cross-over festival, FlowState, where I got to play in some of the most prestigious spots: the opening party and the pre-finals slot for WCS, the only cross-over party straight after the pro show, and the closing set in the Zouk room. Here are some of my favourite sets as reference:Recent beginner-friendly local partyPre-finals set at FlowStateZouk & WCS cross-over party at FlowStateSunday night at MSO

Ecstatic Dance

Ecstatic Dance is where I can express myself to the fullest, given the lack of restrictions in terms of tempo and rhythm.I also greatly appreciate that the lack of chatter makes for better focus and sound quality, and that the audience usually participates through the whole set without leaving the room. These conditions make it so much easier for the dancers to enter flow state.I create an ecstatic wave starting from slow meditative tunes, gradually building up to high-energy songs, and then bringing it back down again. This journey delves into a wide range of emotions. My music collection mainly consists of electronic trance, chillout, and tribal world music. Sometimes, I also sprinkle in a few pop songs and retro tunes.I'm going to play a set at a Women's retreat in Poland in June, and exploring further opportunities this summer.
